Physiotherapy (PT)

What Does a Physiotherapist Do?

Physiotherapists help children and youth learn to control their body so they can move around and participating in physical activities. This may include:

-
Skills to learn how to move either on their own or with equipment (such as a walker, braces, or a wheelchair).
-
Support with other skills to help with movement such as strength, posture, coordination, and balance.
-
Work with caregivers to keep track of their baby's growth and developing skills such as rolling, crawling, or walking.
How Does a Physiotherapist Help a Child/Youth and their Family?

-
Physiotherapists (PT) spend time with a child/youth learning how they move.
-
PTs work with families to decide on goals.
-
PTs will provide ideas and strategies to support goals.
-
They may provide families with resources or connect families with other services.
-
PTs may support a child/youth with equipment. This may include helping them learn to use the equipment, support with ordering equipment, or creating adjustments and getting measurements so equipment is the right fit.
