What Does a Physiotherapist Do?

Physiotherapists support children and youth move their body. This may include:

Skills to learn how to move their body on their own or the best way for them (crawling, walking, using equipment such as a wheelchair).

Support with other skills to help with movement such as strength, posture, coordination, and balance.
How Does a Physiotherapist Help a Child/Youth and their Family?

Physiotherapists (PT) spend time with a child/youth learning how they move.

They will discuss with the family what their goals are.

PTs will provide ideas and strategies to support goals.

They may provide families with resources or connect families with other services.

How to Make a Referral

Anyone can refer a child or youth to the Terrace Child Development Centre (TCDC) with permission from the parent or guardian. To refer, you can either call the TCDC 250-635-9388. You can also fill out a referral form.
If you are unsure whether your child/youth requires physiotherapy, feel free to refer and indicate what your concerns or goals are. Our staff will support and direct you to the appropriate services.
